Dream Cookies AKA Drömmar With Salted Caramel Chocolate & Almonds

Dream Cookies AKA Drömmar With Salted Caramel Chocolate & Almonds

Delicate little dreamy bites of heaven also known as “drömmar“, which means dreams in Swedish! Dreams are called dreams for a reason because they’re delicate and kind vanilla flavoured cookies traditionally made with “hjorthonssalt” aka ammonium carbonate. Hjorthornssalt is a leavening agent typically used in cookies like dreams in Sweden, but you can substitute it with the double amount of baking powder. If substituting it, however, they may not be as delicate, but will still taste amazing! To this amazing classic, I’ve added some amazing chocolate with salted caramel bits, that reminds me of the Swedish chocolate called Daim, and toasted almond bits to give these cuties and extra boost in the deliciousness department. They’re completely vegan, and use a little bit of neutral oil, like rapeseed/canola oil, to give that classic dreamy consistency.

Hope you give these dreamy quick and easy classic Swedish cookies a go and def let me know if you do! Enjoy!

Dream Cookies AKA Drömmar With Salted Caramel Chocolate & Almonds

Like a dream they melt in your mouth, hence the name “drömmar” which means dreams in Swedish. Here, I’ve added some amazing salted caramel chocolate and toasted almonds to the already amazing cookie. Super easy to make vegan as well so you can enjoy them with your plantiful friends!

  • Author: Hanna
  • Yield: 10 cookies 1x

  • 50g margarine or butter
  • 90g sugar
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil, I used rapeseed/canola
  • 120g flour
  • 1/3 tsp ammonium carbonate AKA “hjorthornsalt”*
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar or a splash of vanilla extract
  • 12 hearty handfuls of chopped toasted almonds
  • 40g chocolate of choice, I used this with salted caramel bits

  1. Preheat the oven to 150C/300F and line one or two baking tray(s) with parchment paper
  2. Stir/whip together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  3. Stir in the oil, and then the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Divide into 10 equal balls and place on the prepared baking trays. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until just starting to catch some colour. Let cool and enjoy!

*You can use double the amount of baking powder instead, but it is not quite the same and it may slightly alter the flavour and texture.
